Ascendant: we calculate the sidereal time at your birth moment (Greenwich Apparent Sidereal Time) and combine it with the obliquity of the Earth and your geographical latitude to locate where the ecliptic meets the eastern horizon. Your birthplace is looked up automatically. The Ascendant is highly sensitive to time and location; its speed varies by latitude and sign, and calculations at very high latitudes may be less reliable or undefined.
Atmakaraka: we compare the position from 0–30° of the seven classical planets, from the Sun through Saturn, within their respective signs. The planet at the highest degree becomes the Atmakaraka according to the classical seven-planet Parashari method. Some traditions and software include Rahu, so always compare results using the same setting.
We use Astronomy Engine for the planetary positions and a linear approximation of the Lahiri ayanamsa. This implementation is not identical to Swiss Ephemeris, Jagannatha Hora or other professional astrology software. Small differences in degrees and arcminutes are therefore possible. Always compare results using the same ayanamsa, ephemeris and Atmakaraka setting.
